UBRFC Referee Society

The RFU have challenged clubs and universities to support the lack of referees in the game with encouraging players and students to take on the RFU referee course and start on the ladder to becoming a official referee.

A few years ago led by Bob Reeves the club started the Referee Society supported by club advisor Ed Morrison (world cup final referee) and Tom Foley (current international referee and alumni) due to COVID the society took a pause while courses were unavailable but not thanks to the above and also Struan Milligan (current student) the society is back and running and last week saw 24 students max out the RFU course at Coombe Dingle with all 24 passing the course meaning they are now allowed to referee matches.

This is not just great for the local game but also great for the university with players being able to officiate intermural and Triccs fixtures moving forward and who knows they might find themselves being the next Tom Foley who is making the club so proud.
